FBISD offers assistance to students and families affected by government shutdown

By January 14, 2019No Comments

Due to the proximity of the District to Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff ISD has approximately 20% of its student population whose parents or families are employed by the federal government. With the continuation of a partial government shutdown, some of our families may be experiencing a direct impact with the loss of benefits and furloughs for those that may work in parks, grant programs and on the local military bases. The District is encouraging any of our families who need assistance to reach out and take advantage of available resources such as free and reduced lunch, job opportunities and counseling services.

Free and Reduced Lunch Application
Flour Bluff ISD Student Nutrition participates in the federal funded free and reduced lunch program. The program requires parents to complete an online application and is largely based on financial need. Individuals who are currently impacted by the government shutdown are encouraged to apply for benefits for their children. Click here to access the online free and reduced lunch application. Once the application is completed and approved, a student can begin to receive free and/or reduced lunch within 24 hours and stay on the program for the duration of the school year. For additional information or questions, please contact the District’s Student Nutrition Department at 694-9034.

Job Opportunities
Flour Bluff ISD Human Resources has a variety of job openings on a permanent full-time, part-time and temporary basis. The District is always looking for substitute teachers to be partners in education and assist in the learning process of our students. Substitute teacher pay begins at $9 an hour for individuals who have a high school diploma or an associates degree. The per hour pay increases based on degree or certification. Click here to find out more about our Substitute Teacher program and to apply or contact Kim Howard, Substitute Services Administrator, at 694-9201. Additional Resources
Flour Bluff ISD campus staff are committed to ensuring our students are successful in and out of the classroom. Each campus is equipped to provide students with clothing, school supplies and most importantly emotional support. The stress of uncertainty can affect an entire family. Parents are encouraged to reach out to their student’s teachers, campus administrators and/or the campus counselors for support. Our counselors can provide resources and additional information to assist families in need on a temporary or long-term basis.
