Flour Bluff NJROTC places 2nd in State Competition; set to compete at Nationals in May

The Flour Bluff High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) took 2nd at the annual NJROTC Area 10 Texas State Championship Drill Meet on February 23 and 24. The second place spot secured the Sea Hornets a trip to Nationals.

The NJROTC Area 10 Texas State Championship Drill Meet is hosted annually by Texas A&M University’s Naval ROTC. The two-day event scores cadets in academics, physical ability, military inspections and exhibitions. The Flour Bluff NJROTC unit competed against 15 other units from across Texas.

The Flour Bluff NJROTC came home with the following state awards:

Team Trophies:
   • Academics:  2nd Place
   • Physical Fitness:  2nd Place
   • Unarmed Basic:  3rd Place
   • Armed Exhibition:  1st Place
   • Unarmed Exhibition:  1st Place
   • Overall Drill:  2nd Place
   • Overall State Championship:  2nd Place

Individual Medals:
   • Academics – 1st Place C/LCDR Chloe Rodriguez
   • Female Curlups – 2nd Place C/CPO Sarah Hediger
   • Armed Drill Team Commander – 2nd Place Jacob Martinez
   • Unarmed Drill Team Commander – 1st Place Liana Garcia

The Sea Hornets will represent Flour Bluff ISD at the National High School Drill Team Championships in Daytona Beach Florida the first weekend in May.
