On Friday, March 26, the University Interscholastic League (UIL)Choir Concert and Sight-reading contest was held at the Flour Bluff High School auditorium. The FBHS Varsity Treble and Varsity Mixed choirs participated in the day-long event alongside the Flour Bluff Junior High Concert Treble and Tenor-bass choirs. All four choirs earned a Sweepstakes, all 1’s in concert and sight-reading performance.

“We have been working very hard to prepare the music and for the sight-reading portion in class,” said Fernando Fernandez, FBHS Choir Director. “This was our first public performance since COVID came into the world and first UIL venture since 2019.”

The UIL choral sight-reading evaluation encourages the extension of knowledge in basic fundamentals of music and rewards the consistent use of a systematic approach to sight-reading. The primary purpose of the commissioned sight-reading music is to test musical literacy at specific levels.
