Although this year’s Regional VASE tournament was a little different due to COVID-19, Flour Bluff High School had 82 art entries in the virtual art competition.

For VASE, art students may enter up to two works of art that they work on with guidance from their teacher’s from start to finish. Students submit photographs of their entries through an online dashboard. They uploaded images of their artwork and downloaded documented process images of the development of their artwork, which included sketches, notes and photo references. Students also completed and submitted written intent about the inspiration and development of their artwork, including details about media and techniques used and understanding of compositional arrangement.

“These students worked very hard despite unforeseen challenges,” said Valerie Lichtenberger, FBHS Art Teacher. “With or without electricity or internet, the contest went on and our students did great!”

Of the 82 art entries, 52 pieces received Superior 4 ratings and seven works have advanced to the state competition.

Students advancing to State are:
Division 2:
Lynn Harris
Mallory Lonsbury

Division 4:
Emilie Howard
Ioana Murgulet
Marlena Osgood – 2 entries
Maya Vagedes

Congratulations to all our VASE participants, medalists and State qualifiers! The students are led by FBHS Art Teachers, Valerie Lichtenberger and Sara Webb
